A West Michigan tier 1 automotive supplier of hot and conventional stamped components and assemblies realized they had a problem with their 800T Aida stamping press when their in-house staff measured the temperature of the eccentric shaft bushings and found them to be over 150 degrees Fahrenheit.
GELOCK dispatched a project manager to evaluate the issue on-site.
GELOCK's Solution
It was clear that the bushing had gotten hot and was possibly seized to the eccentric shaft. Our team leapt into action and began disassembly the next day. With our in-house rigging capability, we used our 20T and 7-1/2T capacity lift trucks to remove the four counter-balances: both eccentric shafts, and all four bushings.
Once in our repair facility, we went to work qualifying the shafts and bushings, determining that four new bushings were needed. Our purchasing group was able to secure bronze stock with expedited delivery so that we could begin turning the new bushings right away.
Installation and verification
As soon as we were able, we began the installation process.
Once the bushings were installed, our technicians took the time to verify that lubrication was being supplied to the bushings. We leveled the ram and reset the roller gibs to ensure optimal running conditions, and then verified temperatures on the bushings during run-off. All bushings checked in at 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The total project spanned only 17 working days.
